About Us:


  • The Career Education Association was formally established on 31.7.1974.

  • President: Career education enthusiast, Bill Mulqueen, Campbell High, subsequently appointed the first Careers Liaison Officer, ACT Schools Authority.

  • Vice President: Bernie Carlon, Manager, Woden Commonwealth Employment Service

  • Secretary: Gaye Hart, Careers Officer, Canberra College of Technical Education

  • Membership of the Association reached over 25 by 1975 AGM

  • Priorities in 74-76:

    • Promotion and organisation of professional training for careers advisers

    • Publicising need for expanded school careers advisory services (via articles in Canberra Times and public meetings)

    • Lobbying Commonwealth Govt for creation of an ACT Career Reference Centre

  • 1977 First National Career Education Conference, 8-10 May, funded by Curriculum Development Centre grant, convened by Gaye Hart and ACT conference committee. Delegates attended from most states.
